Sailor Jerry Tattoo Flash
Published in Paperback by Distributed Art Publishers (February, 2001)
Author: Norman Collins
Average review score:

The Essential Flash Book
This book is absolutely beautiful. I have used a friend's copy to get ideas for my tattoos and I finally needed to buy my own copy. Sailor Jerry was/is the quintessential tattoo artist of the '40s-'70s and is experiencing a resurgence in popularity. People are once again appreciating the humor and the detail of his work. For anyone interested in the art of the tattoo, the book is an essential purchase. My next piece is his classic cowgirl for my back (oh, and I am a woman and I can appreciate that his stuff was not just for sailors).

Satan, Satan...How Does Your Garden Grow?
Lucifer Satan, an ambitious young 18-billion-year-old demon from another galaxy weasels a job with Galactic Outreach Development (GOD), a government agency responsible for "The Supplementary Development of Undeveloped Planets," a process that supplies foodstuff for the inhabitants of Satan's home world. As the Field Representative for planet Sol 3, Satan mutates lizards into dinosaurs and launches "The Boldly go to the Dinosaur Show" (with the help of show biz types and the hindrance of government baddies) for extraterrestrial hunters. The "Show" skyrockets Satan to intergalactic preeminence. But alas, having reamed an undersea volcano giving rise to Atlantis Island and a sin-city called "The Styx" (Sex, Torture, Youth, eXtraterrestrials)..[The ending? Guess...]

SAY IT WITH POWER & CONFIDENCE
Published in Paperback by Prentice Hall Press (22 October, 1997)
Author: Judy Collins
Average review score:

A great how-to book
This book should be required reading for practically everyone. It is impossible to read this book, or even just to page through it, without becoming a better communicator. Collins writes with refreshing directness, humor, insight, and sharp analysis. As a teacher, I have strongly recommended the book to all my students, because it is full of excellent tips, advice, and strategies for getting one's points across effectively. Other audiences who will benefit include business executives, job-seekers, sales people, negotiators, witnesses in legal cases, etc. My own favorite chapter is on "becoming a better listener." Too many people are content to be "broadcasters" rather than "receivers," much to their own and our detriment. But every chapter of the book is an informative delight. This is, quite simply, a great -- and most profitable -- read.

Scotland of Old Clan Names Map

Scotland of Old Clan Names Map
Though this is not a book, it is packed full of info for anyone wanting to know more about Scotland of Old. It is giant in size and full of color. One side has a map of Scotland with the old clan territories and the other side has all of the old clan crests. This is a must have for anyone with Scotish heritage or for anyone who is interested in Scotish history. I live in the United States and the only place I was able to find a copy was in Canada. My uncle picked one up while in Europe. You can pick one up while sitting in front of your computer!

Scottish Recipes (The Scottish Collection)
Published in Hardcover by Harpercollins Pub Ltd (November, 1998)
Author: Collins Celtic
Average review score:

Well worth it
I purchased this book because I am of Scottish descent and also because I had just finished reading a book that was set in Scotland for about the 4th or 5th time and I was hungry.

The first recipe in this book is for Scotch Broth. It is an incredibly GOOD recipe! It's the kind of thing you would serve to someone who was sick in place of chicken noodle soup, or at least *I* would!

I liked the fact that both metric AND regular measurements were given. I didn't have to worry about what 450g was because they gave the non-metric measurement first and put the metric measurement in parentheses.

While I'm not brave enough to venture into eating Haggis, I will be making scones. It's definately worth it.

You can only do yourself a favor by buying this book.

The Scripture Way of Salvation: The Heart of John Wesley's Theology
Published in Paperback by Abingdon Press (July, 1997)
Author: Kenneth J. Collins
Average review score:

An Important Work and a "Keeper"!
In this offering, Collins employs the Wesleyan "via salutis," or "the way of salvation", as a framework upon which he successfully maps out John Wesley's theological thought. What Collins has accomplished beyond his careful organization of this material, is to capture many of the important nuances found in Wesley's scriptural-based theology. Although deep and profound, this text is composed in such a way as to not only instruct, but also to engage the reader. Wesley's theological convictions are presented in a clear and crisp style to which the student cannot help but become involved, both spiritually and intellectually. I am convinced this is already an important text, and will grow to be more so as time goes by. "The Scripture Way of Salvation" will no doubt receive the wide reading it so richly deserves.

Section 1983 Litigation in a Nutshell (Nutshell Series)
Published in Paperback by West Information Pub Group (August, 1997)
Author: Michael G. Collins
Average review score:

Collins KNOWS this stuff
Each year Section 1983 litigation makes up by far the bulk of the civil work of federal courts. Section 1983 has produced some of the most confused and confusing doctrine in the law, largely because it operates at the frontiers of some very serious conflicts between competing and perhaps irreconcilable constitutional mandates. Collins, a professor at Tulane Law Schools, KNOWS this material better than most of the judges who will decide 1983 cases every day. He practiced in the area for a number of years, and teaches a course specifically on 1983 at Tulane (as well as civil procedure and federal courts courses). He's also one of the clearest writers you'll find in West's Nutshell Series. Make no mistake, this material is tough, and it's extremely helpful having someone as bright as Collins guiding you through it.

The Security Dilemmas of Southeast Asia
Published in Unknown Binding by Palgrave MacMillan (E) (August, 2000)
Author: Alan Collins
Average review score:

Excellent, up to date summary
Small book, which leads to fast reading and wide coverage. If entirely new to SEA, provides a quick study on their major concerns. If an old "China" hand, then a good source for references and summary information.

Send 'Em One White Sock and 66 Other Outrageously Simple Ideas From Around the World for Building Your Business or Brand: The MaxiMarketing Idea Book
Published in Hardcover by McGraw-Hill Professional (01 March, 1998)
Authors: Stan Rapp and Thomas L. Collins
Average review score:

Simple, Practical - Profitable!
This is the first Rapp / Collins book I read and I found the book delivers what it promises - simple, obvious, practical ideas to improve business. It comes in short chapters which focuses on 1 point, so it's really easy to absorb and think about. Yes, of course you can read the content of the book and find out what these 66 ideas are but it's worth reading (not that difficult to absorb) to get a deeper understand of how the ideas are applied. It's a ready reference that you would want on your bookself or better yet in your drawer so that your boss won't find out where you got your fantastic idea from. It's worth it.
